How to Tell if You're Connected to Wi-Fi or Cellular

When you're at home, work, or a friend's house, it's always best to connect to their wi-fi network since it's faster, more secure and will save you from using cellular data.

When you're in your car, traveling, or just out and about, you'll likely be using cellular data. Which if you're like me, you monitor since your Cellular Provider charges you for overages.

Here's how to quickly tell if your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi or is using Cellular Data.

Looking at the status bar, if you see the Wi-Fi Symbol, you're connected to a Wi-Fi network.

What is the difference between Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi plus cellular on an iPad?

There are three iPad models on the market (iPad, iPad mini, iPad Pro) with a variety of storage options available. However, the iPad has another feature you'll have to consider when making a purchase, and that's whether to get Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi plus cellular.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when deciding:

Using Reader View in Safari

It seems like more and more these days, I'm reading articles that have been sent to me in my email on my iPhone.

When I click on a link in my email, the web page opens in Safari, with "Reader View Available." If you click on the bars in the upper left corner, an easier to read version is displayed.

How to Recover Deleted Photos and Videos

When you delete a photo or video, your iPhone or iPad moves it to your Recently Deleted album, where it gets automatically deleted after 30-40 days. In this album, you'll see the countdown of the number of days until it's going to be deleted. This is a great way to recover an accidentally deleted photo or video.

You also may be deleting photos or videos to save space. In this case, you need to also delete photos and videos from the Recently Deleted album before space is freed up.

Go to Photos > Albums > Recently Deleted

How to Password Protect a Note

With iOS 9, the Notes App that comes with your Apple device got some major upgrades. One of those upgrades is the ability to password protect a note.

Since you can also save pictures in notes, I plan to keep a picture of my drivers license and passport in a password protected note, in case I need them when traveling.

Here's how to password protect a note:

Step 1 - Select a note you'd like to protect with a password or Touch ID and select the Share button in the upper right corner.

How to Determine your Exact iPhone or iPad Model

Understanding your iPhone and iPad model is important, since not all hardware features are available for all models. Also, older iPhones and iPads can't take advantage of the latest version of the operating system, which is called iOS.

There are a few ways to determine your exact iPhone or iPad model, but this method is the quickest and most accurate:

Step 1 - Find the Model Number

Go to Settings > General > About. Scroll down to find the model number and write it down

How to Unfollow Someone on Facebook

In Facebook, you are able to control the things you see in your News Feed. If you are ‘friends’ with someone that is posting information you’re not interested in seeing, it’s easy to ‘unfollow’ them. You’ll still remain friends and they won’t know you unfollowed them.
In your News Feed, select the down arrow in the upper right of the item they posted. You’ll see a pop up window that allows you to unfollow them but still remain friends.
